Whilst living in Melbourne, as I had no holiday days to take from work, I decided to have a solo weekend away in Tasmania. The historic town of Hobart is the capital of Tasmania, Australia’s most southerly and only island state. It was founded in the early 1800s as a penal colony and luckily for Melburnians, is only a short, one hour flight from Melbourne’s two airports, making it a plausible getaway destination for just two days. Whilst I wished I could have spent longer and had an opportunity to explore some of Tassie’s other highlights (Bruny Island, Cradle Mountain, Wineglass Bay, Bay of Fires to name just a few!), after debating for some time whether a two day trip was worth it, I booked flights with Tigerair, one of Australia’s budget airlines.
